The problem

My father is rude when he's nervous.

He gets nervous when he needs to ask for things.

As a result, I really really don't want to be the person he needs to ask for help. I hate it when I am, when he is a jerk to me right before I have to decide whether to tell him I'm free or not.

Being a good daughter feels terrible.

He has cancelled his flight back east because he hasn't finished urgent things around his house. My mother is leaving tonight. For some indefinite period, he will be home, and until the 23rd the closest person for him to ask will be me. I already had my whole week scheduled, but he wants the space around the edges.

Being a good daughter feels TERRIBLE.

I am going to do my utmost to limit just how good of a daughter I am this week, but he has me for tomorrow morning at least.

That is an . . . interesting personality quirk. It must make his life difficult. Or is it one of those things where he's only like that with people close to him? In any case, best of luck.

It's worse with people close to him, but he hates to get help from non-family members. Yes, it does make his life unenviable. Papa is a mess, and we try to have mercy on him.
