Anniversary shenanigans! I am calling this a liveblog because well... I've seen the episode a few times by now.

Ahh cityscapes. They set a mood more than a setting, I think. I feel the same way seeing NY as LA as London at the beginning of a show. Surrounded by concrete and anonymity.

Hullo Del Floria. (First good character: old Italian man)

I love how efficient the first THRUSH are.

Second good character: Asian woman.

There's something alien about metal halls.

Third good character: black man. I love you show.

Alarm! One THRUSHie left, despite the efficiency. I like the melting of the lock mechanism here.

I love the cracking effect on the bulletproof glass in front of Solo's silhouette. Fun fact: I found out that Oakland busses have bulletproof glass once when the bus I was in got shot. The spiderwebbing wasn't so widespread, but it was similar.

Titles!

And lots of bulletproof glass to get around before he reaches a place to shoot the guy. Why did they get rid of this entrance to Waverly's sanctum? It was so clever.

Hi Illya.

Hee hee manganese and thermite. Yay accurate chemistry!

Hello Mr Waverly.

Wait. WAIT. There was supposed to be glass over that panel Waverly just walked through. Napoleon had to walk around it! (Waverly has special powers)

Closeups!

Insta-flirt and then on to the slideshow!

So this is very timely. Starting only 13 years before with Libya, African nations started to get their independence from colonial rule, as continued into the 80s. If I had to guess which nation Western Natumba is standing in for, Ghana is fairly reasonable, though perhaps with the roles switched around... Kwame Nkrumah was generally recognized as a wise and moral man.

...why did he call her an agent provocateur hmmmm?

Hi Illya. I doubt Waverly did that research you're handing to Napoleon you diligent agent you.

Haha nervously sweating reverend. "In all conscience, the best I can do is vouch for the bishop." *flees*

What fascinates you about her nail polish, Mr Solo?

God Napoleon moves fast. Too fast for her, it takes her several seconds to be shocked.

Her hair is amusingly well done for being at home in her bathrobe. Also, there's the delayed reaction again.

Intro to THRUSH!

Lia pointed out that Napoleon is using psychic paper here. I can never unsee it.

"I'm just a housewife with two children. And a husband, don't forget him!"

Hahahah "No I won't even consider it" cut to her on a plane!

So I've always wondered about her. Is she an agent with UNCLE? Because we never see her again and I think some sort of intelligence from her would be mentioned if she were with THRUSH.

May I say, I really really dislike Napoleon's early hairstyle and am glad it will change.

Hee hee, prophetic "Adults overeat in this country."

Ahh Napoleon, you and your tea and your providing everything, planning to the last detail. You are SO the reason UNCLE had to tighten the purse strings over time. You just love any excuse to pamper women with clothes and jewels.

"A careless flick of the risk" Serious Napoleon is serious.

Hahaha sixties women loving fur coats. It's a thing.

I dislike the collar for her wrap. High class party scene!

Vulcan looks like a rat.

I love the Western Natumba delegates. *sighs* Oh William Marshall, your voice is one I love to trust. Why must you break my heart so?

There's that "luxury he hasn't permitted himself" thing again. Curious phrasing.

Ah Solo. So recognizeable no matter what Waverly imagines.

Hahaha "our friend's uncle."

"I've taken lessons, but I've had no desire to use them until this moment."

God I love Marshall's voice.

Hahaha Napoleon cuts in in the most jerkish manner possible.

Laughter is an excellent way to hide the subject of your conversation!

Hahaha oh the first swimsuited secretary. The things you get away with in UNCLE.

Why go boom when gassing him is cheaper?

Look at you all scruffed up Napoleon. But why aren't you wet? Your car did go into a RIVER.

Dun dun dun, the plan is still on without the Premier! And Elaine has her doubts.

Aww. Napoleon being understanding. Recognizing her temptation to be more than a housewife. This is wonderful. Because he doesn't just recognize it, he will help her return to normalcy. He is more moral with women than fic writers sometimes realize.

Haha decoy.

Rappelling into the reactor room!

"Mr. Vulcan wants you" hee hee

Okay, this chase scene? Beautifully beautifully shot. Vertical perspective, shadow tricks, gorgeous. Perfect.

How did she get there? And how did she know where he was?

William Marshall why must you break our hearts? But at least two of the three are good men.

"I'm sure you'll find this a lovely place to spend the night. It's sound proof. Come over here Mr Solo, you're about to be chained to a pipe." *chuckles*

"Death will come rather slowly, but you're a patient man, Mr Solo."

William Marshall, oh why must you be evil? And so polite too?

Hee hee sorry but death by steam room is fairly hilarious.

Haha Napoleon. "Of course I don't blame myself, it had to be done!" Your morality is so simple and clean even though you use innocents.

I can't believe his method for escape works. Should that work? Seriously? Even if the pipe did come loose shouldn't that have been scalding water?

Look at you two all soaked.

*facepalm* but honest about wanting to be seen as beautiful. Femininity isn't easy in any age. Napoleon you wonderful man for not taking any sort of advantage. See, he has self control. He is a GOOD man!

Her hair is magically good again...

Ah last minute rescues ftw.

And of course the bad guys are left behind.

Ohh, you good and honest men you. I love the good faction of Western Natumba delegation.

Oh Napoleon, shopping for her family and everything. I love the way you protect married women's marriages.

Stewardess time. And just to prove Napoleon's a LITTLE skeezy... *sigh* @ the cleavage trick.
