Sorry I ever doubted you, my dear.
"Smith talked about his audition and how he had to shoot 12 takes of the infamous fish custard scene in The Eleventh Hour. Moffat said his inspiration for the scene came from the Winnie-the-Pooh books, specifically the scene where Tigger claims to like everything, but then proceeds to reject all the foodstuffs offered to him."

Date: 2010-04-25 10:49 pm (UTC)To coin a phrase - Fantastic!
I thought it looked familiar; I wouldn't have guessed that the one was literally inspired by the other. As usual, my hat is off to the Grand Moff.
So...if he had to do 12 takes...that man must've had to eat an incredible amount of fish custard! I grow queasy just thinking about it.
Related anecdote. Douglas Adams based the character of Marvin off of a somewhat gloomy friend of his. One day he was talking to said friend's mother, who was telling him how much she had loved the book. Rather nervously, he asked if Marvin seemed at all familiar. "Of course!" she answered. "He's Eyore!"
Well, it seemed related in my head at least.
How did the rest of your episode go? Any more Old High Gallifreyan flirtation? They say to always marry an anthropologist: the older you get, the more interested (s)he gets!
And on my side of things - we're three quarters of the way through Robot, and Joel-Henry definitely misses Jon Pertwee. It's kind of cute. I suspect Tom Baker will eventually grow on him as well - there's time. I was struck by several things. First, that with his new promotion, everyone's favorite is now Mister Benton. Curious. And Second, sad days for the Brigadier. He's giving away top secret information to Sarah Jane - a journalist - apparently because he has no other friends. The Brigadier pretty much takes regeneration in stride by this point, but neither he nor the Doctor has very many actual friends apart from each other, and it's pretty clear that the UNIT era of the show is now over. It saddens me.
That and the villain looks like my step-mother. And where did Sarah Jane get such a sexy little MG?

Date: 2010-04-26 12:13 am (UTC)The rest of the episode was fairly full of questions and few answers, River may not be as nice as she seems but who knows, there's a Bishop who's slightly reminiscent of the Brig (and in a similar capacity), and the weeping angels killed three men and we don't know why. Also, it's hilarious to watch the Doctor being handled that well, plus River said she was taught to fly the TARDIS by the very best and it was NOT the Doctor! And Amy handles being farther in the background rather well, and is pretty clever even if she's in deep trouble at the moment. The rest will have to wait for part 2.
Meantime, I'm catching up on season 3 for SJA, Sarah Jane has a sweet little mini these days, the current episode is The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith and I really want to know what exactly is wrong with her fiancee and WHY the TARDIS noise keeps going in the background without the TARDIS actually appearing.
Heee hee hee.

Date: 2010-04-26 12:41 am (UTC)Taught to fly the TARDIS or TARDISes in general? Because if the former that narrows the playing field to...Romana and the TARDIS herself. And I guess the Master steals her in the new series? I'm pretty sure he never actually pilots the Doctor's TARDIS in the original series. And like...Adric. Cuz that's likely. So it probably is the latter.
Isn't Sarah Jane like...70 at this point? She's 23 in Invasion of the Dinosaurs. But then I suppose there's been a lot of time travel in the meantime. I suppose as long as he doesn't give her a deadly alien artifact for a wedding present again it'll all turn out alright. (This is probably why he wasn't invited to the Brig's wedding).
I always have these uncontrolable urges to list things. It's a problem.

Date: 2010-04-26 01:55 am (UTC)Sarah Jane is about my mom's age, maybe a bit younger. And my mom isn't 59 yet. Anyway, she looks gorgeous in a wedding dress, and the Doctor actually arrived to prevent the wedding because he saw through the Trickster's plan, and the husband was pretty cool at the end, and the TARDIS zapped Clyde with the Aurtron energy he needed to zap the Trickster, and it was so cool to see Luke working with the Doctor, I really wish he were a companion! Really really, I love Luke...
There was a great moment when the Doctor said to the kids, "Come on, we can use the TARDIS! ...I assume everyone know what the TARDIS is? Unless you've really not been paying attention."
Also, I love how SJA has about twice as many old Who refs in a given episode as the main show, and had to laugh at a lot of bits.
Luke: "I thought you'd want the Doctor to give you away."
Sarah Jane: "Well, I needed someone reliable, and where would I have sent the invitation, Metebillus 3?" (which would totally have worked, but hey, it's fun to have the Doctor technically crashing the wedding)
And the Doctor told her "Don't forget me." Just like she told him when she left the show!

Ha - Metebilus 3. Never gets old. Although, remember what I said about deadly wedding presents...

Date: 2010-04-26 12:19 pm (UTC)Oh, we watched another couple of episodes of Robin Hood last night. I can't get over the fact that Robin is wearing a hoodie. And the sherrif is just fantastic. Man that's a dorky show.
