Happy 48th MFU
Sep. 22nd, 2012 07:57 amHaving just read st_crispins's essay on the subject and being a rabid classic Who fan, I momentarily bristled at her calling MFU the birthplace of media fandom. But while Who is older, it didn't rocket to the top the way MFU did. MFU was off the air before Doctor Who reached the height of its popularity.
And yet it's still around. People talk of the lean years, the 15 years between losing Doctor Who and getting the reboot. But The Man From UNCLE went off the air 44 years ago and the Return movie aired 1983, the year I was born. It has been my entire lifetime since new content was created.
So my internal rabid Whovian can shut up about it. There is no fandom quite as dedicated or tenacious as the first: the Mystic Cult of Millions.
