I don't want to talk about it, but I know my friends and how well-meaning they are, so I'll have to.

When I found out about Guy Ritchie, I wasn't too worried. I had seen his Sherlock Holmes remake, and realized that all the things that annoyed me about it would be virtues in MFU, and he seemed to have a good sense of camaraderie. Guy Ritchie I could handle.

But Tom Cruise fills me with dismay primarily because he is so self-focused. You can see it in the way he interacts with the camera: on closeups, he tends to hold the same expression, like a pose, like the point of the closeup is his face and not his reaction to something outside himself. And of course he is notorious for taking control over productions he's in. I despair for any equality in the pairing.

I don't know the other guy, I am not going to condemn him just because he's tall. The kind of visual gags we're used to aren't really modern things. What I do see is that he has a baby face, which could make a character easy to underestimate, not a bad trait for an Illya. So I refuse to say he'll be horrible.

But I am worried. I don't think I will want to see the movie when it comes out, but I'll probably end up seeing it anyway with some well-meaning friend. Or my dad will take my mom and she'll suggest they invite me. And if I do like it, as I frequently do like things I didn't plan to?

Part of the reason I spend so much time in MFU fandom is because it isn't fractured like Doctor Who is. This could do the job. Some corner of my heart sees cruel irony in the fact that a number of the MFU fans are Ten/Rose fans too...
