You don't always get the fic you expect

So last night I started to read what looked like it would be a short, sweet how Illya came to New York story on File 40. Turned out it was only the first chapter.

I am now on chapter 19 with no end in sight, four months or so have passed, and not only have Illya and Napoleon gotten involved, but the doctor tending to them in a remote location after they barely survived a mission in Indonesia has developed a deep friendship with the radio operator who was the only other person he could contact during those two weeks, and Illya has a mysterious life threatening illness for which they brought in a lady doctor who is coming to like working somewhere they appreciate her talents and Waverly brought in a very famous doctor to help her and I bet they end up together too and and and

And I have the most powerful sense that I am reading a soap opera, or maybe something from the whedonverse. I guess it depends if they kill Wash or not (in this case the doctor or his radio friend).

The writing desperately needs editing for spelling at least and the grammar shows that the author speaks Ebonics. Which is weird to read coming from Waverly's mouth, I can assure you.

But it's good fun..... I just wonder how long it will be.
