I've created a sweet little monster
Apr. 28th, 2008 12:58 pmSo I'm starting D&D with the rugby girls. Stephanie and Tamara are new to all this, so I'm trying to keep it as simple as I can - also to save myself time for homework. I spent a few hours each with them over the weekend making their first characters.
...I don't even know how to tell this story, it's tough to describe. Suffice perhaps to say that after long consideration of all the options, they each made semi-versions of themselves... Stephanie's a druid who spent the last 100 years not really bothering to level, but rather quietly training horses. Tamara's our tank. She kept grumbling about having worse rolls than Stephanie (triggering warning lights labeled "Munchkin!" in my brain)... until I got her started on her background and now she's all excited as a former pirate who seeks to save a prince in distress. Very excited.
Rachel's the one with a scary character idea. She wants to be a gnomish werewolf and I had to convince her not to play a necromancer. Now she's debating illusionist or cleric.
Now apparently when I finally convinced Tamara to let me go last night - "Come with me so we can keep talking about my character!" - she immediately called Rachel. Rachel was studying. Tamara kept talking to her best friend because she was so excited. And she drew her character in their math class today. And then there was lunchtime.
We sat with two friends of theirs, Haley and Mike. Now Mike started playing two years ago. He and Rachel and I got into deep discussion about former campaigns, Tamara kept asking for advice on drawing her previous pirate named Petra, and Haley every now and then would beg for a change of subject. We either ignored her or half-tried to convince her to join us. (Came close to success when I explained that it's improv with rules, but ultimately failed.) Mike alternated between saying he didn't have time and begging me to let him be in the game. ("I can make my character on my own and I've got my own dice...") We may let him play an occasional character, we'll see.
But I've got my girls.
